Message from the PTSA Presidents

Dear Lewis Families,

Welcome back to another exciting year here at Lewis Elementary! We hope you had a restful and relaxing summer and feel refreshed to begin another great year of learning. We have some great opportunities this year for you to become involved. While we will have some of the same events this year, we are also introducing some new activities. This year we are changing our main fundraiser from Sally Foster to a Fun Run. We are so excited to introduce this high energy and powerful event. It is similar to Laps for Lewis and will take place in October. It will start off with a pep rally, continue for a week where they children bring in their pledges, and culminate with the actual Fun Run. The day of the Fun Run will be a great day for parents to come out and cheer on the children. We will also be offering cookie dough again this year; however, it will be in the Spring. Some of the other fun events planned are the Fall Festival, International Festival, Pizza Bingo, and Barbecue Bingo. Please check the handbook/calendar for these important dates.

Our hope is that everyone will join the PTSA this year and become involved with the planning and execution of our programs and events here at Lewis. As you know when you join PTSA you get a packet of numerous coupons for local businesses that more than pay for the cost of your membership. We encourage you to volunteer in your child’s classroom, or volunteer for some of the PTSA events throughout the year. We have a great team of volunteers that have already stepped up to chair various committees, but we still need you! PTSA is an advocacy group for your children so we need your input so we can make our school a better place for your children to learn and grow.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Luense and Ken Roberts

PTSA State

Organized in 1906, Georgia Congress of Parents and Teachers is the direct link between the local units and the National PTA.  Through this connecting link, more than 350,000 Georgia PTA members have the opportunity to help direct and formulate PTA efforts and activities; anyone who becomes a member of a local unit automatically becomes a member of the Georgia and National PTA.

PTSA District

We are part of District 9, a geographic group that unifies local units and councils within the state. It coordinates efforts between the council/local units and state/national organizations.

PTSA Council

Lewis PTSA is part of the Tom Mathis, Sr. Council, which includes area PTSA groups.  It offers leadership and assists local units and coordinates activities between local units and state.

PTSA Mission Statement

1. To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children;

2. To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and

3. To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of the nation.
